Code of Practice

Joe Dempsey

The Architects Registration Board has published a Code of Practice to which all registered architects should abide. The code, so it says, “is a positive statement of what professionalism and ethics mean for an architect.” (ARB, 2025, p. 1) The code is available online here: https://arb.org.uk/architect-information/architects-code-standards-of-conduct-and-practice/

Instructions

(1) Please read and review the Code of Practice individually, once done, meet as a group.

(2) Print out one copy of the Code, ideally at A3, and pin it up somewhere central to your group.

(3) Nominate one member of your group as a note-taker; the note-taker can annotate and draw on the printed out copy of the code you are now contending with.

As a group, decide, discuss, and then annotate as follows:

  • Underscore everything that you deem important and that you agree with
  • use asterisks to mark the the most important points
  • Use wavy lines or other symbolism to mark unclear lines, or statements that you question
  • strikethrough sections that you outright disagree with
  • perhaps use techniques of modification to further engage with the code of conduct.

(4) Once done, please take (high-quality) photos of your work, or scan it in using one of the scanners in MTC, and then post your performance as an entry into this wiki.
